Church of San Gil

Church of San Gil

Religious architecture

Direction: Plaza del Concejo, s/n, Guadalajara.

Arco Passage leads out of the south end of the main square left to plaza del Concejo, where the ruins of the old church of San Gil stand.

The medieval Council (concejo) used to hold their meetings at the church. It's worth pointing out that five streets meet in star form in this plaza, which, small as it is, might well have been the centre of the medieval city at one time. The irregular street plan of the narrow adjacent streets is a reminder of how old this part of the city is.
