Of the original defenses that protected the city, a sufficient number have survived to allow us to capture the magnitude and might of those medieval fortifications. Their strength and design won the respect of the staff and students of the Academy of Engineers (in Guadalajara between 1833 and 1932), who restored the buildings and extended some sections.
